Bethnal Green United Football Club was formed by Nurul Hoque and Akhtar Ahmed in the year 2000.The primary aim was to promote football and develop the skills of young people in and around Bethnal Green and later the whole of London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Football was used to tackle the issues of concern to these local young people by delivering a package of sports and social education. This hopefully will keep them away from the streets and urban negativity and encourage them to achieve their own goals and aspirations.
The club’s objectives are as follows:
Provide sports activities and social education; Promote football within the youth; Divert young people away from urban negativity; Provide informal education and discussions on drugs, crime, violence, racism, vandalism, etc; To engage young people in main stream societal life; Break down territorial and cultural barriers; Develop young people physically and mentally; Create peer motivators and team leaders; To work with other likeminded organisations.
Bethnal Green United Football Club whilst continuing to fulfill the above aims and objectives are fully committed to take the senior team to a much higher level football. We currently have a Senior team, a community team and several youth teams. Our senior team play their football within the National League System playing in the Middlesex County Football League, with the intent to gain promotion to the next tier of the football pyramid. We have a lot of support from the local community, local authorities and businesses. This season our senior squad successfully obtained tenure of Mile End Park Stadium. We would like to thank London Borough of Tower Hamlets for accepting our application for tenure and hope we can continue to work together in the future. This ground brings a lot of advantages to the club and will hopefully give us the strength to play in the FA Vase cup and FA Cup in the impending seasons.
Eight years on, the club has successfully initiated a youth football academy, currently running two Under 16 teams participating in the Essex ‘Echo’ Junior League. An Under 8’s team and an Under 14 girl’s team currently participating in non competitive football. Bethnal Green United is a Chartered Standard football club.
We would like to take this opportunity to also thank all our sponsors such as Canary Wharf Group PLC, DVS Motorz, TAWA Management, Citi Agent, Global Business Link and all our personal members for their support.
Notify the league secretary of any updates as soon as possible. Changes to the club contacts or kit colours must be notified immediately.
