The name of our organisation is Mohammedan Sporting Club (London). We have been established since the late seventies. Until March 2000 it was financed and run by a single individual. The organisation now consists of Officers and an Executive Committee all of whom are volunteers and is wholly self-financed.
We also have an established constitution, which we adhere to. Our main activity at the moment is football. We currently participate in a summer league, League Bangla, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and we triumphed as champions on three occasions in their seven-year existence. During the winter we participate in the Inner London Football League Premier Division. Although success is a welcome achievement our main aims and objectives are to develop programmes of various levels of sporting activities, which will encourage young people to participate, and for personal development. To plan and organise programmes which encourages local people, specially the young from East London in their interest of sports. We are developing links and improving networking amongst other sports organisations for example Tower Hamlets Sports Council, Professional/Amateur football clubs and football associations etc.
We are developing initiatives to help the youth of East London to participate in sporting activities and in turn diverting them from crime, drugs and other menaces of society. We have been successful in doing this as we have around fifty young members participating.
Ten of our members have attained an FA coaching badge financed by the Club.
Our other activities include providing free coaching sessions for the age groups 5-9, 10-12, 13-14 and 15-19. Our future plan is to enter all these groups into local football leagues.
We have toured Bangladesh on two occasions recently and have established good links with the professional clubs. Indeed our last tour, in April 2004, incorporated a friendly against a star-studded side, which included nine current national players.
